Aliens: Colonial Marines may have been in development for just about half a decade now, but Gearbox and Sega are trying to get the hype train in motion by showcasing one of the game's most exciting multiplayer modes as it gets closer to release date.
We already knew the game featured the typical team deatchmatch, as well as the previously announced “Escape” mode in which players on the marines team have to get to a specific destination while players on the aliens team try to stop them. The entirely new Survivor mode, however, takes a page out of the current multiplayer trend in games by implementing a Horde style, co-op experience that frankly looks like a lot of fun. Frightening, but fun.
The concept is simple: “survive at all costs”. You and three other teammates hold a position and work together to take on wave after wave of vicious aliens who want nothing more than to rip you to shreds and maybe even some facehuggers who can't wait to latch onto your face and use your body as its embryo's host which then bursts out of your chest soon after. The trailer featured tactical strategies such as turret placement and door welding alongside the action which suggests teamwork and planning are necessary to survive. If you've always wanted to recreate some of those really frantic moments from any of the Alien movies by fighting for your life as horrendous xenomorphs come after you from every corner (even crazy suicide bombing ones), then this new multiplayer mode is perfect for you!
