id Software, known best as the studio responsible for franchises such as Quake, Rage and Doom has recently put up a job listing online detailing that they are looking to hire programmers to work on "cutting-edge technology for an unannounced game on future-generation consoles."
According to the ad, a perfect candidate would have to be familiar with id Software games, characters, brands and universes. We can only speculate whether this unannounced game is a brand new franchise the company is working on or if it's a sure sign that one of the most eagerly anticipated games out there is in the works and for a next-gen release. We're talking about Doom 4, of course.
We already know that the game has been in production since as far back as 2008 but not much else has been revealed about the title since then. id Software co-founder and rocketry enthusiast John Carmack was quoted saying in an interview last year that as that "as soon as Rage ships, the core tech team moves over to start making things happen on the Doom 4 project". We can only cross our fingers and hope that Doom 4's long-awaited announcement is looming on the horizon. It's been nearly 5 years after the critically acclaimed Doom 3 impressed us all with visuals unlike anything we'd ever seen at the time, and a sequel is long overdue. We'll be sure to post any developments as soon as they're announced.
