First they established themselves as pioneers of the "music video game" genre with titles like Amplitude and Frequency. Then they changed the world with Guitar Hero. Lastly they revitalized and perfected the entire genre with Rock Band. The same genre they themselves popularized and brought to the mainstream. Harmonix not only made it cool to jam on a plastic instrument, not caring how silly you might look, they made it a world-wide phenomenon.
Up to this point, every new entry in their most revered franchise, Rock Band, was vastly superior to the one before and pushed the limits of what a music game could offer. With the next installment, they aren't pushing any boundaries or reinventing the way we play Rock Band (yet again). Instead, Harmonix is taking a giant step back and offering a simpler yet innovative (and definitely addictive) experience akin to the original music games that started it all. Rock Band Blitz takes a cue from games like Amplitude, Frequency and most recently Rock Band Unplugged by encouraging you to drop your instruments and play rhythm games in a different way.
As with every new Rock Band game (or any rhythm game in general), the setlist is what makes or breaks the whole thing. It's the soundtrack that drives you to wanna buy it immediately or not even raise an eyebrow. If you're a diehard RB fan and have been waiting anxiously to check out every song Blitz has to offer, then wait no more! Harmonix has now revealed the entire setlist on their Rock Band site. The game offers a wide selection of music from almost every decade and almost every genre, some notable tracks are "Shout" by Tears for Fears, "Moves Like Jagger" by Maroon 5 and "I'm Still Standing" by Elton John, just to name a few. But if you're dissapointed by the setlist you can always pick from ony of the thousands of songs already in your RB catalog via dlc. On a similar note, you will also be able to export these songs to Rock Band 3 with full instrument support for free. Let us know what you think of the setlist in the comments below, hate them? Love them? And whatever happened to the Barenaked Ladies? I'd like to know.
Rock Band Blitz is set to be released for PSN on August 28th and XBLA on August 29th for 14.99 or MS points, respectively.
